The I AM Foundation is honored to announce that a star volunteer of ours, Jeffrey Coprich Jr. of Valencia, CA, will be presented with the Watkins State of California Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. The award is presented to the state’s top African-American male high school student. On Friday, February 17, 2012, at 6:00 pm, The Los Angeles Chapter of The National Alliance of African-American Athletes (The Alliance) will present this award to Jeffrey.
“People need to know that in addition to being a star athlete, Jeffrey Coprich Jr. is also a stellar student, community volunteer and a truly dynamic young man. In addition to his athletic skills, Jeffrey has a heart of gold and only wants to make things better for all the children and teenagers in his community.” states Steve Viglione, Founder of The I AM Foundation.
Jeffrey and his Dad, Jeffrey Coprich, Sr. created The Essence K. Coprich Book Club which supports children’s literacy and self-esteem. Two of the core values at The I AM Foundation. Over the past several years Jeffrey Jr. and Jeffrey Senior have partnered with The I AM Foundation and helping to gift thousands of I AM! Affirmation Books and
other books to the children of Los Angeles. The work is done through The Essence K. Coprich Library and The 116th Street School in South Central LA. Now thanks to The Essence K. Coprich Book Club and The I AM Foundation’s Points of Light sponsors and donors we are able to gift The I AM! Affirmation Book for Teens and Young Adults to the teens and young adults in the LA community.
“There is such a need for kids to feel great about themselves and that they can do it. That they have a purpose and a reason for being here. They need literacy and self-esteem in order to succeed. That is why I am proud to gift The I AM! Affirmation Book to the children and teens of our community. It helps the kids achieve these goals.” states Jeffrey Coprich, Jr. Jeffrey has also gifted copies of The I AM! Affirmation Book to his team mates on his football team. Thank you Jeffrey for all you do for the children, the teens and young adults, your community and for The I AM Foundation.

Jeffrey Coprich, Jr. of Valencia, California , GPA 3.5 Coprich, a 5’9″ 185-pound running back/cornerback for the West Ranch Wildcats transferred from Golden Valley High in Santa Clarita, California and was awesome. He didn’t always have an eye for football, though. “One day, I was going to practice with my little cousin and got recruited by a coach there,'” recalled Coprich. He confessed that basketball was his original passion but, “I always liked playing street football.”
He faced tragedy at an early age when both he and his sister were involved in a severe car accident. A three-year-old at the time, Coprich was able to survive. His seven-year-old sister, Essence Coprich and two-year old cousin were not as fortunate.
Despite his loss, he uses her memory to help guide him. He continues her legacy by annually fundraising to get books donated to a library named after her located in Watts, California. “I’ve been through so much, it’s made me stronger as a person and a player,” he said.
