Recently, The I AM Foundation gifted $500 worth of books to the Anthony Independent School District in Anthony, Texas. There are 400 children in the elementary program and the district has switched to an extended-day schedule for the 2011-2012 school year. They are planning a reading initiative for students in order to raise below-average reading scores and when Oralia Moseley submitted the request for books, she said that she hoped the books from The I AM Foundation would also help increase parent involvement.
At AISD,http://www.anthonyisd.net/ they believe combining traditional academics with “real-world” applications will better prepare students for a successful future.
While academics are important, they also place a high value on character building to help students develop virtues that will serve them throughout their lives. Positive character traits—ethical conduct, honesty, communication skills, accepting responsibility, self discipline, perseverance—cannot be learned from a book. They are the same traits that they expect in our instructors and staff who serve as the role models for the student.
