August, 2011 Update,
The children of South Central Los Angeles are in need of our community’s support right now. The Essence Coprich Library needs children’s books for the upcoming school year and you can help. Books for grades K through 8 are needed.
The I AM Foundation is now doing a major campaign to support children’s books being sent to The Essence Coprich Library in South Central Los Angeles. You can help by donating your children’s books or sponsoring books from The I AM Foundation’s Love~Wisdom Series.
For every ten dollar donation you make, we will gift three brand new books that build self-esteem from The Love~Wisdom Series to The Essence Coprich Library. To make a financial donation to provide books click here.
Thank you for supporting the children of South Central Los Angeles at The Essence Coprich Library at the 116th Street School.
6/1/10 Thank you to Author Eileen Cianciolo for donating 10 copies of her book I AM and Author Lori Lite and husband Rick Lite of Stress Free Kids for donating 120 copies of their Stress Free Kids Books.
On Friday May 29, 2009, Steve Viglione and Dr. Marilyn Powers joined Jeffrey Coprich, the Coprich Family, Principal Carolin McKie, school officials and students on the campus of the 116th Street Elementary School located at 11610 Stanford Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90069. We joined together to celebrate the life of Jeffery’s daughter, Essence Coprich and the Grand Opening of the Essence Coprich Library in her honor.
Essence’s life was cut short on August 3, 1996 due to a tragic car accident. She was a student at 116th Street Elementary School and her presence was missed immediately. At the age of seven she was intelligent, loved people and was full of joy.
While we can’t imagine what Jeffrey has gone through as a father who was in the very accident which took his young daughter’s life, we uphold his commitment to make a difference in the lives of children in her honor.
The I AM Foundation stands strong with Jeffrey in gifting life affirming books to the children of the Los Angeles area and helping him with his vision to build Essence Coprich Libraries around the world.
We also acknowledge Jeffrey Coprich’s teenage son, Jeffrey Coprich Jr., who is an up and coming high school football star and Jeffrey’s wife Danielle Coprich who were present with the Coprich family.
Steve and Marilyn were invited by Jeffrey Coprich as key note speakers for this commemorative event which included distinguished guests such as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Diane Watson, Laura Richardson, State Senator Diane Feinstein, LA County Supervisor Mark Ridgley Thomas, Assemblyman Mike Davis, Assistant Superintendent Sharon Curry and Kitty Davis-Walker of the Union Rescue Mission.
Hollywood celebrities included actors Shaun Baker, Khamani Griffen, Deance Wyatt, Giovanni Saunders, Moe McRae and Kevontay Jackson.
The I AM Foundation gifted the teachers and children of the 116th Street School and The Essence Coprich Library with an I AM! Affirmation Book: Discovering the Value of Who You Are for each child to take home. Over 550 books were gifted in all. This event was made possible by all of The I AM Foundation’s 2009 Points of Light Campaign Donors. Much gratitude goes out to all of The I AM Foundation’s Points of Light who help make the magic happen locally, nationally and globally.
A special thanks to Moriah Diamond of The Way I See Me Photography for doing an excellent job taking photographs and video on behalf of The I AM Foundation.
