We love “The I AM! Affirmation Book!”

By Christian “Thaahum” Abrokwah and Nekaybaw Marie Abrokwah

Christian and Nekaybaw

Christian and Nekaybaw

When I first heard of  The I AM! Affirmation Book, the purpose of its authors Steve Viglione and Dr.  Marilyn Powers immediately resonated with me.  My main goal as a parent is to help my child blossom into the marvelous person she is supposed to be!  One of the ways I am doing this is by letting my daughter Nekaybaw explore her own creative endeavors.  She loves to draw, write stories, and write and record her own music.  I was looking for another way to help my daughter be reminded of her greatness, and this book was the answer.  In talking to the author Steve Viglione it further touched me to hear his genuine nature.  I am a single co-parenting father, so his words of encouragement reminded me that I was on the right path with my daughter’s inner growth.

Nekaybaw was really happy to receive the book after I handed it to her.  In talking to her a few days later, she said she read the book and felt so much joy from it, she almost felt like crying!  I’ll let you hear of her experience in her own words…

Nekaybaw

Nekaybaw

In that book my favorite affirmation is I AM JOY, but I really like all of them.  Some of my own affirmations I came up with are I am love, and most of all I am happy for my life, and all the happiness and joy in it!  Why do I like to sing?  I like to sing because I was born to sing, born to live the good life, and was born rich!  Why do I love this book?  Because this book made me realize who I am.  For that I thank the authors so much!

I am so grateful that I have been able to help my daughter maintain her inner knowing.  And both Nekaybaw and I are grateful for Steve and Marilyn’s determination in helping children of the world know how special they are.

Thaahum is the CEO of Keneteph Entertainment and creator of the Inspiration on Fire Hip Hop Mixtape series.  For more information on his work go to myspace.com/inspirationonfire .  Nekaybaw is a great fourth grade student at Wood Elementary School who is working on her own CD of positive songs for children.

“I AM! Affirmations”: 4th Article in the Series

“I AM” Affirmations

for Self-Esteem

By Dr. Marilyn Powers and Steve Viglione

Cover_v9e

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

“[The I AM! Affirmation Book] is commendable in how it leads the mind of the child to a refreshingly welcome vision, using animal characters that populate the dreams of childhood, to build good resolutions. We are fortunate that this work has been translated into Sinhalese, Tamil, and English and [was] gifted to our children. I convey my most sincere thanks to you for this work done, especially for children, to help them become architects of a good society in the future.”

– Shiranthi Rajapaksa, First Lady of Sri Lanka

AFFIRMATION OF THE MONTH:

I Am Grateful!

And the way that I believe,

Is giving thanks for what I have,

And what I will receive.

Now I know who I Am,

And when I close my eyes I see,

The incredible child that I am,

The I Am, that is Me.

An affirmation is a true statement, and the truth is that you are a loving intelligent caring being full of potential and worthy of love, respect and appreciation. Whatever we choose to say after the words “I am” affect our feelings, moods, and even how we see the world. When they’re positive, these beliefs support us in feeling more confident and capable at school, at home, wherever we are.

Before you go to sleep each night, express gratitude—or thanks—for all the good things that came into your life during the day. You might share these thoughts out loud with your mom or dad, or just close your eyes and think about them by yourself. Go through the day and think about all the good experiences you encountered: The delicious breakfast you and your dad made, the fun you had snow-shoeing through the woods, the teacher who took extra time to help you, the girl who went out of her way to invite you to sit with her and her friends for lunch, an aunt that took you to a movie, the laughter you and your mom shared this morning, or whatever happened to you that made your life a little better.

Then, think about the next day and imagine what you would like to happen that you will appreciate tomorrow night. “I Am Grateful! And the way that I believe, Is giving thanks for what I have, And what I will receive.” Do you believe that you deserve to have a “tomorrow” that is even better than today? As you enter sleep with an attitude of gratitude, you feel at peace. You focus on what went right in your day and you also feel calmer and more secure as you face tomorrow.

VeeJay came home from school feeling upset and frustrated. “Mom, I just can’t stand my math teacher! She treats us like we’re dumb and makes us do the same boring problems over and over!” Then he paused and took a breath and said, “Hold it, don’t even say it. I know what you’re going to say. You’re going to say what you’ve always said to me, which is ‘What am I going to do about it?’ I already thought about that and I set up a time to talk to her tomorrow to see if I can either not do all the problems and move on to the next lesson or go sit in the hall and work on my other homework while she helps the kids who need more help. That’s not really my problem. My problem is, I just can’t seem to get back into a good mood. On the bus I did that EFT/tapping stuff we read about last week, and I actually feel a lot less angry than I did before. But I just want to relax and enjoy the rest of the evening without going over this stuff in my head.”

“Well,” his mom said, “Remember that affirmation we were saying the other day about being grateful? Do you think there’s anything about this situation or about your whole day that you could think about and feel grateful for?”

“Well, I’m grateful that I’m not in math class right now! Just kidding…I know we want to find things that we are grateful FOR instead of things that we’re grateful are NOT happening. Actually, during lunch today, which was before math, I had a great conversation with Nathan. We were talking about going camping this summer. That’s one thing I’m grateful for, to have him as a friend. We’re always planning such fun trips.”

“Now I know who I Am, And when I close my eyes I see, The incredible child that I am, The I Am, that is Me.” As you say these words, think about all the positive things you are. Think about all the words that you can use to finish the sentence: “I am…”. Think about all the things that make you uniquely you. You are full of goodness. Give thanks for the intelligent, creative, imaginative, loving child that you are. As you go to sleep, let your last thoughts take you into a calm and peaceful state, where you can sleep undisturbed throughout the night.

I AM! Affirmations help build our confidence, support us taking action, and encourage us to share our feelings and have them validated. The outcome is our experience of feeling successful when we have persisted and practiced.

What our world needs today! Wealth, Prosperity & Philanthropy

What our world needs today!

Wealth, Prosperity & Philanthropy

By Alex Mazloom, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Mind Treasures

Imagine a time when millions of people are selflessly working together to improve the lives of the less fortunate throughout the world including the 30,000 children who die of hunger everyday. This might be a far fetched idea especially in the current world economic conditions when most people are just trying to survive. Hopefully after this recession is over we can concentrate on accumulating the wealth that is needed to reach such a worthy goal. But didn’t we already gather an abundance of wealth several times and lost it. Did we run into some bad luck that brought us to the current situation? To answer this question we must understand the synergy of wealth.

Wealth is a form of energy and by scientific definition energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed from one form to another. Consider a tank of gasoline that holds certain amount of energy. The richness and various potentials are contained within the liquid however this fluid, by itself, cannot move anything, light any area, make any sound or provide heat or cold. In combination with the potential energy of oxygen, an automobile engine (through a precisely managed process) transforms the potential contained in gasoline. The transformation process defines how much of the original energy becomes useful (i.e. heat in the cabin) and what portion of it, is wasted (heat in the engine compartment and exhaust). On the average, a traditional gasoline engine wastes about 75% of the potential energy contained in gasoline and to make matters worse, during the last decade, we became obsessed with some of the most inefficient automobiles built for their time. However hope is on the way. Over the recent years and through technology advancements, engines are becoming more and more efficient. While no change has been made to the gasoline or its energy content, addition of computers and electric motors have increased the efficiency of this transformation process to more than 50% in some cases.

At a more sophisticated level, we can think of ourselves as an engine that has access to various forms of wealth (energy) such as knowledge, expertise, health, time and money. From early childhood we strive to gain wealth in a quest for financial independence however, on the average, only 5% of the population achieves this goal while 65% arrive at their golden years in a total financial dependency state. Clearly, there is a large amount of potential energy contained in the wealth gained throughout ones life, but the human engine has been running very inefficiently and I seriously doubt that adding more wealth to this process will improve its performance. Thus far the engine of humanity has mainly used the emotional and physical realms to transform (or better yet waste) the potentials contained in the accumulated wealth on itself. When we are happy or sad we spend on ourselves. When we are not satisfied with our physical appearance we spend again. When we look at the Jones’, again we spend. It seems like any day and any occasion is a good reason for spending again on ourselves and to supply these expenses we have to work hard and harder everyday. Only by adding new elements to this engine, we can become more efficient in many aspects of life. This is where the Mental & spiritual realms and their hidden Treasures (virtues) must be engaged to improve the performance of human engine for the benefit of all.

“Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit there from.”

Discovery and development of virtues such as Purposefulness, Patience, Moderation, Responsibility, Truthfulness, Thankfulness, Generosity, Reliability and many more will allow the human engine to process the various forms of wealth for the benefit of entire humanity. This is what we aim to accomplish at Mind Treasures. Our mission is to raise a wealthy, prosperous and philanthropic generation through financial literacy and character development and we begin this process at the young age of 5. Our goal is to educate, mentor and enable children, youth, young adults, couples, families and the community they live in, to bring wealth and prosperity for all humankind throughout the world and as a added bonus bring financial independence for this and generations to come. I invite you to check out the latest video of how we are implementing this one person a time (www.mindtreasures.com).
